Our Special Projects
Our first project focuses on helping children that live in a garbage dump just outside of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It is the most horrible place that I have ever been in my life and it’s full of children that live there and scavenge through the garbage each day. Please read about Cambodia’s Dump Children here.
This year, we are working extensively with the Center for Children’s Happiness. This has to be one of the best places on earth. It is full of love and a complete eagerness to learn. The center was started by a kind soul that he himself was orphaned by the Khmer Rouge, father Sokha. He lived in the dump for a while, until someone helped him. Now, he’s dedicated his life to taking children out of the dump and giving them a future. Please read about the Center for Children’s Happiness (”CCH”) here.
CCH Youth House - IMMEDIATE GOAL $23,000
We are helping CCH build a home for its youth. This home will help at least 30 of the older children transition from life in an orphanage to normal society. We will be mentoring youth to develop their skills, live independently and find “paid” work as a responsible young adult. At the same time, we will be able to free up spaces at CCH and give us the opportunity to take more children out of the dump.
We purchased the land! Now, we need to build a Home.
Child Sponsorship - IMMEDIATE GOAL - Sponsor 15 Children
We are helping take children out of the garbage dump. We are asking people to help support a child to a life outside of garbage picking. A full sponsorship costs $800 a year or $70 a month. A shared sponsorship costs $400 a year or or $35 a month.
As a child sponsor, you will receive information about your child, including photos. We will provide you with regular updates (at least semi annual) of their life and progress. We will help you know your sponsored child.
Coming Soon
In 2008! We will launch a project to help a school for very poor children. Please read about the School for Children of Poverty here. We will also be working with a great place that helps street kids in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Stay Tuned.
Why Act Now?
The reason this is so important…. Because, children live in garbage right now.
