Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is “Canodia House”? A two-year capital stewardship campaign to help raise funds to build a new facility and pay for designated vocational projects.
2. Can we implement this campaign ourselves? Yes. The Director of CCH has implemented many building projects in the past. We will be on the ground providing guidance and expertise to ensure success of this campaign.
3. How large will the new facility be? The new building will be approximately XXX square feet with a room capacity of XXX and a student capacity of XXX. There will also be an office where students can obtain information regarding vocational programs, job placement and obtain counseling.
4. Where will the new building be located? The location will be just north of the existing CCH facility.
5. Why do we need to build a new building now? Over the past several years, the average age of the children in increasing.
6. What is the fundraising goal for “The Next Chapter?” The goal is $60,000 US with 10% of the funds raised going towards the establishment of initial vocational programs.
7. Can this building project be completed in phases? Yes, in the event our pledge goal of $60,000US is not met, we are prepared to build the facility and launch the programs in phases. The building could be built in phases, including developing the base level of the building first and second level later.
8. Will the new building provide us with the opportunity to expand later on? Yes. We are currently reviewing funding arrangements to purchase additional land that is adjacent to this location. This land could potentially be used for youth of CCH, although our plans for other land development have not been finalized.
9. What architectural and construction companies are doing the design, drawings, construction and renovations? XXX is the General Contractor for the project construction. In addition, we plan to employ CCH youth to assist the builders in the project. There are many youth that have experience with construction and are interested in pursuing this as a future career. This is an excellent opportunity to provide them with training and experience. We will work with the contractor to define their specific roles and responsibilities and discuss opportunities for training.
10. When will construction begin and be completed? Our first priority is to purchase the land. Land prices are rising quickly in Phnom Penh and the land we have identified is in a great location beside CCH. Our ability to purchase this land will depend on the success and timing of our fundraising efforts. Our goal is to purchase the land early in 2008. Our goal is to begin construction in September of 2008 and be completed by December 31, 2008.
11. How will the funds be raised? The funds will be raised through individual, corporate and organizational pledges received through Canodia through our Canodia House campaign commencing October 1, 2007.
12. What will my giving support? Your giving will support a new XXX square foot building, kitchen and bathroom facilities in each room, basic kitchen supplies, three beds per room and 10% of all financial pledges committed will go towards vocational projects for the children. Those projects include:

13. Will monetary commitments be made public? No. We respect the privacy of all donors. Please read our privacy policy. We may decide to include company sponsor logos on our web site, if requested.
14. Can I make one large gift instead of giving over two years? Absolutely! There are several ways in which to give. You may feel led to pay the entire pledge amount up front, or break it into monthly or giving.
15. May I give gifts other than cash? Yes. There are several other non-cash donations that can be made; transferring of stock, bonds, estate donations and other asset donations. For other ways to give non-cash donations, please contact Gerry Valois.
16. Can I give online or will you accept donations by cheque? Both. You can make secure on-line donations through the website at www.canadahelps.org. For those of you who prefer to give using cheques, please complete the attached word document and mail your cheque to XXX.
17. How much will it cost to complete the project? The total cost of the project will be $XXX thousand. That includes construction costs, legal fees and architectural fees.
18. What if we are unable to raise the entire cost of the project? We expect that we will raise all the funds required through our Canodia House campaign. In the event that there is a shortfall, we will consider other financing arrangements that may include a bank loan.
19. Have you considered financing this building through debt? Yes. We have…. The banking sector in Cambodia is often not considered safe.
20. Have you considered renting a location? Yes. We have spent several days creating a cash flow analysis based on different scenarios. We have….
21. How should I go about making my commitment? We are asking organizations, households or individual to: 1) make a lump sum payment towards the new building, 2) make a one-year commitment to give on a monthly basis. Through such a commitment, we will accomplish our mission and allow children to develop a future.
22. What are the longer term plans for this project? It’s hard to reach or influence a person for Christ without having a voice in their life, and that voice can be one-on-one, within a small group, or in a large gathering. We are committed to every level of influence, but the new auditorium is primarily about seats for the large gathering. We believe that if we had more seats that we would be able to influence more people for Christ. That’s our mission.
