Hope for A Future for the Children
On a more personal note:
I have traveled through many countries in my life. I’ve never been to a country where the people had so many smiles and were as welcoming. I would ride my bike down the street and people would wave from the sides. I would be invited to homes where 20 people all lived together. These people had little in terms of material wealth, yet they were rich in spirit.
Then there were the children. I would see dirty children picking garbage on the streets everywhere. I’m not talking about a few kids here and there. I saw them everywhere. When I stopped to talk with them, they all told me one thing. They wanted a better life. They wanted to go to school. When I worked at a centre in Siem Reap, children would show up to class early and be excited to learn. I would see these same children on the streets at night. In a small school in the country, kids would line up and surround the huts where I was teaching. These kids want to learn. Kids everywhere asked me to teach them. And the children work. I saw kids working day and night at the dump. I saw kids working in restaurants all day long. I saw kids selling on the streets until all hours of the morning. They work hard. They are not poor, because of their will. They are poor because that is how they were born. All they need is people to care and an opportunity.

Children that came from the garbage dump.
